Statistical Process Control (SPC) uses
statistical techniques and methods to monitor, analyze, and control the
variation in the process. SPC is used to help us identify and improve out of
control processes as well as track the process performances. The main tools
for statistical process control are
quality
control charts where process performances are measured and compared to
statistical control limits. Other SPC tools and methods are process
capability, Cp, Cpk, Pp, and Ppk,
pareto analysis,
flow diagrams, cause and effect (fishbone) diagram, histogram, . SPC
identifies special causes of variation and SPC methods are used within a
quality management system through team and individual activities within
organizations. Quality practitioners should be able to identify the need and
select the appropriate SPC tool, apply it, interpret the results, and make
appropriate decisions.
